How to Prepare For Your Cabinet Refacing Project: A Checklist to Make Sure You’re Ready

Apr 26, 2023

Your cabinet refacing install date is coming up, and you want to make sure you’re ready! Fortunately, there are only a few things that you need to do in order to prepare for the refacing job. Let’s go over how to prepare for your cabinet refacing project, so that you know exactly what you have to do before you can sit back, relax, and watch the transformation.

The cabinet refacing process – first steps

From the time you begin communication with us to finished product, we want the cabinet refacing process to be as smooth and easy for you as possible. You never have to leave your home, and you can even use your kitchen throughout the process in the mornings and evenings.

When you’re ready for a quote, we’ll come to you to take measurements and show you samples. At this point, you’ll decide what styles and upgrades you want for your kitchen. We’re happy to help with suggestions if needed!

After the decisions have been made and the quote is approved, there are only a few things that you need to do before the install date arrives.

How to prepare for your cabinet refacing project

1. Think through other kitchen upgrades

If you’re planning on updating other aspects of your kitchen, such as countertops, backsplash, wall paint, or appliances, let us know! We can help you think through the order that these upgrades are done with respect to cabinet refacing so that they don’t conflict with each other.

2. Empty out your cabinets

Cabinet refacing creates little disruption compared to other options, like new cabinets and cabinet painting. With refacing, there’s no major construction and no fumes in your home.

However, since the process can cause some dust, we recommend removing dishes and other items from your cabinets. This will ensure that they stay clean and don’t have any chance of being damaged during the process.

3. Remove any items that you’ll need during the day

A major benefit of cabinet refacing is that your appliances will be available for use before and after working hours each day. We do, however, ask that you refrain from using your kitchen during the working hours. This way, we can get the job done as quickly as possible and have your kitchen back in order sooner! If there’s anything you’ll need from your kitchen during the day(s), it’s a good idea to move it to another room.

4. Don’t forget to take pictures!

Don’t forget to grab a few “before” pictures before the process starts. Once you’re settled into your newly updated and refaced kitchen, it’s hard to remember what it looked like before!
