What Does Cabinet Refacing Cost?

Apr 12, 2023

We know that the price of cabinet refacing or any kitchen remodel is usually the biggest factor in the decision-making process. If you’re interested in refacing but wondering, “what does cabinet refacing cost?”, we want to give you some answers!

Though the price of each of our refacing jobs varies significantly, we’ll share about the most common price range in this post, as well as factors that influence the cost.

Factors that influence the cost of cabinet refacing

The cost of cabinet refacing can vary greatly depending on a number of factors. Some of the top considerations are the size of your kitchen, number of doors and drawers, style options, and other upgrades.

Here is a list of some more of the main factors that will influence the price point of your cabinet refacing job:

  • Number of doors and drawer fronts
  • Size and style of new doors and drawer fronts
  • Square footage of end panels
  • Wood species
  • Finish options (paint/stain/natural finish)
  • New drawer boxes
  • New pull-out drawers
  • Hardware upgrades
  • New moldings
  • New additional cabinets

While these are the main factors that influence the price of our mid-Michigan jobs, other non-local factors include:

    • Your state/city
    • Labor costs in your area
    • Availability of materials
      •

      What does cabinet refacing cost?

Although there are a variety of factors that influence the cost of cabinet refacing, most of our jobs fall within the $5,000- $12,000 range. Nearly all of these jobs include additional upgrades besides simply updating the doors and face frames.

At Veracity Cabinet Refacing, it’s our goal to provide you with a top-quality job from a small, family-owned business. With this model, we’re able to keep our overhead costs and therefore pricing low, while also keeping the closest eye on quality and craftsmanship.

With a larger company, cabinet refacing may cost closer to $15,000 for an average kitchen.

Note: Some companies refer to the “average cabinet refacing cost” as the cost of simply updating the doors and veneer. Our estimate is based on our overall average job cost, most of which also include updated hardware, soft-close hinges and drawers, and many also including other updates such as molding and new storage solutions.

Is it cheaper to reface or replace cabinets?

Cabinet refacing is significantly less expensive than replacing your cabinets. In fact, it usually cuts the cost by about 1/3 or even 1/2.

We love that the option of cabinet refacing not only saves you thousands, but also is quicker and less invasive than replacing your cabinets. However, if you want to change the layout of your kitchen, replacing is likely a better option for you.

How to save money on updating your cabinets

For qualified candidates, we believe that refacing is the most value-driven option for upgrading your kitchen, laundry room, or bathroom cabinets. Good candidates for this process include cabinets that are in decent condition (i.e. no major water damage, harmful products used, or gouging) and of which you like the layout.

In most cases, cabinet refacing costs significantly less than replacing your cabinets. While it is more costly than painting, it tends to last longer both functionally and stylistically. For this reason, though the overall cost of refacing may be more than cabinet painting, the average cost per year that you’ll enjoy your cabinets is often lower.

Updating the style and function of your cabinets through refacing also adds real estate value to your home.
